About Us
Urgent Wellness is a healthcare provider founded in 2017 after winning the GWU social enterprise competition. Our presence in Ward 7 and Ward 8, low-income housing communities, strategically positions us to address health disparities in the DC area.
Our Impact
Our services led to a remarkable 35.4% reduction in ER costs and a notable 15.5% decrease in hospital expenses for 497 AmeriHealth Medicaid clients. Our partners experience significant savings.
Our Strategy
Our holistic approach to medical care integrates patient-centered outreach and wrap-around gap care into our comprehensive services. This ensures that our patients receive care that extends beyond disease management, encompassing mental health support, lifestyle management, and connections to social services.
Our Approach to Care:
Urgent Wellness offers targeted chronic disease management and primary care for vulnerable communities, particularly low-income and homeless individuals. Our community-based clinics directly address barriers to healthcare access. Our doctors, nurse practitioners, and community health navigators collaborate to support patients. Our specialized health navigators are uniquely stationed within communities to facilitate connections with primary providers, aid in lifestyle changes, and support medical appointment adherence.
How We Partner with Housing Communities
Partnering with apartment complex management teams, we identify optimal clinic launch sites. At Douglas Knoll Apartments, we transformed a residential space into a permanent medical clinic, seamlessly integrating it without disrupting existing architecture. Our efficient process takes us from contract to launch within six months. Many housing communities benefit from tax breaks, and incorporating a medical clinic can enhance tax exemptions.
How We Partner with Managed Care Operators
We joined forces with AmeriHealth to offer comprehensive care to 12,000 high-utilization patients in Wards 7 and 8, bridging the gap in primary care access. Our mission extends further as we aim to collaborate with all Medicaid MCOs, implementing our innovative door-to-door outreach strategy. Together, we strive to identify and support the 40-50% of individuals who rely on emergency room visits for healthcare, ensuring they receive the primary care they need.
How We Build Community Trust
Trust is paramount to effectively serving our communities. That’s why we strategically position our micro clinics within housing communities we carefully select and train all our staff, and engage with residents beyond their healthcare needs. For instance, our annual holiday cookout at our Ward 8 clinic fosters community connection. Our aim is to extend partnerships to other housing communities across the District, broadening our impact.
